In the heart of San Jose, on Almaden Boulevard, affordable housing has opened its doors to the community. The Arya complex, once known as the San Jose Market, is now home to 87 units specifically reserved for very low-income residents. These new homes cater to individuals earning between 30-60 percent of the Area Median Income, according to the California Department of Housing & Community Development.

Satellite Affordable Housing Associates brought the project to life, marking their inaugural venture into the San Jose area. Financial backing includes a substantial $12.7 million grant from the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities program, a collaborative effort managed by the Housing and Community Development Department and the Strategic Growth External Council. An additional $3.5 million from the Infill Infrastructure Grant program ensured the necessary improvements for infrastructure to meet the daily needs and safety of Arya's residents.

Nestled within the bustling downtown, this new complex promises more than just a roof over its residents’ heads. Arya's occupants can now enjoy free wireless internet throughout the building, as well as a serene garden terrace and a community room for social gatherings and events. These amenities are part of a broader scope to not only provide housing but also enhance the quality of life for its renters.

As for location, Arya doesn’t disappoint. Residents find themselves within walking distance of public transit, making commutes less hassle. The development's infrastructural add-ons are notably extensive. Funds have been allocated for sewer and water utilities; a sizable parking garage with 40 spaces and bike parking accommodating 44 bicycles was incorporated into the complex’s blueprint. Moreover, sustainability measures like sidewalk upgrades, hazardous materials mitigation, which included a grade-level vapor barrier, and environmental precautions have been meticulously accounted for.
