The community is invited to the groundbreaking of Alta Madrone, the new construction of 48 homes for low-income families and veterans in Sonoma.

On Monday, February 24 at 2:30pm, Satellite Affordable Housing Associates (SAHA), along with local partners and elected officials, will celebrate the groundbreaking of Alta Madrone, 48 new affordable homes in the City of Sonoma.

The new community, set to be complete in summer 2021, will provide much needed housing and comprehensive support services to families and formerly homeless veterans earning 30-60% of the area median income.

A two-year community engagement process that included a series of design charettes and stakeholder input, helped direct the final design and site plan of Alta Madrone, which will include a series of eight residential buildings of 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom homes and a community building built around a central courtyard.

“SAHA is proud to break ground on our second affordable housing community in the City of Sonoma. After the devastating fires in the North Bay, coupled with the regional affordable housing crises, it is more critical than ever for local cities and counties to partner with nonprofit developers like SAHA. The development of Alta Madrone has been a community-wide effort, and a great example of what can accomplished when you bring everyone to the table,” says Susan Friedland, SAHA Chief Executive Officer.

Along with design features specifically tailored to families, extra attention has been paid to the landscaping of this site, with open space central to the property, childrens’ playground, bay-friendly landscaping and mature trees and shrubs to enhance privacy and overall comfort for the existing neighbors and new residents.

Additional amenities include an outdoor picnic area, community garden, office space for support services, covered bicycle storage, and laundry facilities.

Once the building is complete, SAHA will provide property management services will be partnering with local La Luz Center to provide on-site services for the 48 new households.

Funding comes from: City of Sonoma, Sonoma County Community Development Commission, Santa Rosa Housing Authority, Sonoma County Housing Authority, California Community Reinvestment Corporation, California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, Federal Home Loan Bank San Francisco, Wells Fargo Bank

Alta Madrone is designed by Pyatok Architects and constructed by Midstate Construction.
